ABOUT SHENG
A performing artist who teaches with clarity, care, and a global perspective.
Associate Principal Cello of the China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra since 2018, Sheng has performed for world leaders, collaborated with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra under Myung-Whun Chung, and shared chamber stages with musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra, and Philharmonie de Paris.
As a member of Bridge Quartet and a jury member in national competitions, Sheng brings a warm, structured teaching style and a personalized approach that parents and students value for its clarity and steady progress.
With a cross-cultural, bilingual teaching approach serving Hong Kong and Shenzhen learners, Sheng supports beginners, exam candidates, and advanced players preparing for ABSRM, orchestras, auditions, performances, as well as help students who seek enrollment in prestigious schools.

Teaching lineage & training
A lineage shaped by master artists
Sheng studied with Eleonore Schoenfeld, Nathaniel Rosen, Peter Stumpf, Jean-Michel Fonteneau, and Liwei Qin, and trained at USC and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her chamber work with Bridge Quartet and the founding of Cello Family in 2019 inform a studio grounded in artistry, community, and long-term musical development. He has also played chamber music with members of the renowned Berlin Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra, and Philharmonie de Paris.

Partner with Sheng Zhang Cello Family to elevate your music program
Sheng works with school music departments to provide learning experiences that combine international performance standards with culturally sensitive bilingual instruction. He also designs cello programs from the ground up for kindergartens and primary schools. From masterclasses and artist talks to sectional and orchestra coaching, each event is planned based on the students' readiness, the goals of the curriculum, and the desired performance outcomes.
